Heather Wilder, best known for her work with Altmeyer Wilder Racing and as President of the Keystone Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association (USHWA), has been appointed to a six-year term on the Screening Committee for the U.S. Harness Racing Hall of Fame.

The committee meets annually to determine what people will reach the final ballot to try to achieve the sport’s ultimate honour, membership in the Hall of Fame.

Wilder was named to the committee following the passing of USHWA Chairman of the Board, Barry Lefkowitz, by Michael Carter, the current President of USHWA.

“Heather brings a wealth of harness racing knowledge to the committee,” said Carter. “Heather’s work in multiple areas of the sport made her a solid candidate for the committee. She is someone who will bring an informed voice to the important discussions.”

Chapters of USHWA nominate candidates for the Hall of Fame in late spring, and all nominated candidates go before the Screening Committee, which meets on the traditional Hall of Fame weekend in early July. This is when Wilder will be seated on the committee.

Wilder, along with her family, husband Mike, daughters and fellow members of USHWA Scarlett and Lauren, and parents Dan and Ruth Altmeyer, have spent nearly a decade building their brand, Altmeyer Wilder Racing. Their brand has more than 6,400 followers on Facebook and promotes harness racing with a family feel each day.

Wilder is a widely respected horsewoman and is active in many other parts of the harness racing industry. Wilder is globally known for her work with organizing the Vincent Delaney Memorial Tour and working on-air during the event held in Ireland.

In North America, Wilder’s on-air talent shines through in her work with "Twos In Training" for Harness Racing Update, work with the Ontario Sires Stakes and wrangling interviews for the Little Brown Jug each year. Wilder is also known for her work on the Dan Patch Awards red carpet interviewing some of the sport's award winners.

Wilder’s volunteer work also shines bright with her serving as a Pacing for the Cure board member, and with her commitment to the USHWA organization each year, both in her local and national chapters.
