Standardbred racehorse Genius At Work posed for win photos on 14 occasions prior to his retirement from the racetrack in 2017. Interestingly enough, a photo of the Credit Winner bay recently snapped in New York City, right in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, may ultimately prove to be his legacy.
Genius At Work trotted in 1:54.4 and stashed away over $117,000 in purse earnings over the course of his 67-race career. After his racing days were behind him, Genius At Work found his way to the Standardbred Adoption Society.
The SRF does its best to provide humane care for Standardbreds that are in need of ‘lifetime’ homes or are in crisis. The organization rehabilitates and re-trains former harness horses. The SRF preps them for adoption, and, in some cases, offers them lifetime sanctuary. The organization conducts lifelong follow-ups on the horses it adopts out, and also offers therapeutic equine opportunities for children and adults.
The state of the world right now is like no other time, especially for the people of New York City. Interestingly enough, Genius At Work has been captured in a photograph that could very well prove to be an image of some historical significance.
The photo in question, which has been shared by the SRF, shows the empty streets of NYC with just one mounted police officer. The Standardbred Retirement Foundation has proudly stated that the police horse in the photograph is none other than Genius At Work.
Many of SRF's horses are adopted to mounted police units. In SRF’s immediate area, this includes Newark, Philadelphia, Rockland County, and Otisville, and some SRF graduates have made it as far as to the sheriffs' units in Texas.
The SRF is a 31-year-old registered non-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible. For more information, click here.
