Two-time O'Brien Award winner Logan Park made a triumphant return to Woodbine Mohawk Park, delivering an impressive performance to capture the $36,000 Preferred Trot in his first start of the season on Monday, April 14.
Amigo Volo (James MacDonald) powered to the front from the middle of the gate, with Quebec Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) settling into the pocket and 1-5 favourite Logan Park getting away third. After an opening panel of :28.1, driver Doug McNair gave Logan Park his cue on the backstretch. The veteran trotter surged first over and took command, reaching the half in :57 and three-quarters in 1:25.3.
Down the stretch, Logan Park remained strong and trotted away confidently to stop the clock in 1:53 by 1-1/2 lengths. Amigo Volo held well for a game second, while Quebec Hanover rounded out the top three.
This performance served as a prep as Logan Park gears up for a major international test. His connections have accepted an invitation to compete in the Elitloppet at Sweden’s Solvalla Racecourse on Sunday, May 25, with regular reinsman Doug McNair confirmed to make the trip and retain the drive.
Logan Park is a seven-year-old gelded son of Archangel out of Rite Outa The Park. He is trained by Kyle Fellows for owners Outofthepark Stable of Rockwood, Ont., Reg Higgs of Blenheim, Ont., and Arpad Szabo of Bradford, Ont. Logan Park earned his 37th career victory, boosting his lifetime earnings to $2,027,432. He returned $2.50 to win.
On the undercard, Phoenix ($3.30) delivered in a new Pop-Up Series for trotters that are non-winners of $15,000 (fillies and mares $18,750) in 2025 or those not averaging $1,400 (fillies and mares $1,750) per start in 2024 or 2025. Bob McClure steered the winner of the $14,000 opening round division for trainer Julie Walker, stopping the clock in 1:54.3.
Two $10,000 Pop-Up divisions were also contested for horses and geldings who are non-winners of $7,500 in 2025 or not averaging $900 per start in 2024 or 2025. The first division produced an upset, with Up Joeys Credit ($69) prevailing in 1:53.3 for driver Trevor Henry and trainer Jacob Roberts. The second split went to Brookdale Miki ($8.20), who posted a 1:54.2 victory with James MacDonald driving for trainer Gerard Demers.
