Churchill Downs Raising Takeout

Published: April 14, 2014 11:31 am EDT

It has been reported that Churchill Downs will be increasing takeout from wagers when the Kentucky Thoroughbred track’s spring meet kicks off later in April.

The news comes courtesy of an article by The Courier-Journal that explains that Churchill’s takeout will be the highest allowed under state law.

The report states that depending on the type of wager that is placed, takeout could be between 17.5 per cent and 22 per cent.

The Courier-Journal has cited John Asher, a spokesman for Churchill Downs, as saying that spring purses would have been cut and certain stakes possibly cancelled if the takeout increase was not instituted.
