Witch Dali carried her win streak over to Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday night (April 13) as she defeated the Preferred mares for the third straight time.
Third through a :27 opening quarter in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace, the Richard Moreau-trained Witch Dali ($5.30) overtook her front-stepping stablemate Ms Mac N Cheese on the way to the half in :55.2. The favourite kept a first-up P L Hurricane at bay past three-quarters in 1:24.2 and prevailed by one and a half lengths in a season's best 1:51.4 over the 'good' track with Doug McNair in the bike. P L Hurricane came out ahead in a three-way finish for the runner-up honours over Exhilarated and Circle The Page. Ms Mac N Cheese ended up fifth, two and a half lengths behind, with Naughty Lady B completing the field.
The seven-year-old Dali mare is owned by Bradley Grant, who today announced he was pledging money earned over the next month from his pacer named Humboldt to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Player Assistance Program in the wake of the tragic Humboldt Broncos hockey team bus crash.
Meanwhile, pacing mare Black Jack Pat kicked off the Friday night card with a victory for the Humboldt Broncos. Dave Van Camp, of Van Camp Construction, who owns Black Jack Pat, also pledged to donate his horse's Friday night earnings to the Humboldt fund. Trevor Henry worked out the winning trip in the $18,000 first race aboard the Nick Gallucci trainee, who prevailed by a neck in 1:55.2.
