Noble Jilly Prevails In Woodbine Thriller

Three-year-old pacing filly Noble Jilly closed out Woodbine Racetrack's Friday card of harness racing, persevering in the closest call of the night to pull off the biggest upset.

Driven by Jody Jamieson in a $17,000 fillies and mares pace, the post nine starter rallied home from third over off the cover of second choice Shutthefrontdoor and out-sprinted that filly in the final quarter of a mile for the 23-1 upset win. Noble Jilly prevailed by a neck in 1:54.2, sparking a $49.70 win payoff.

Gapping the gate from the start, favourite Missevil was unable to overcome post 10, but with a :26.4 closing quarter from the trailing position she managed to pass half the field for a paycheque.

Noble Jilly was making her return to the races after a month layoff and earned her first win in three starts this year. The mile time was just one-fifth of a second off her lifetime mark, taken in a leg of last October's Autumn Series.

Jamieson, Woodbine's 2014 leading driver, earned the most wins on Friday's 11-race card with Noble Jilly giving him a grand slam. Addison Bay helped him sweep the late Daily Double as she posted one of the fastest miles on the program and came within one-fifth of a second of the Canadian season's record for mares. The David Menary trainee scored in 1:51.4, which was matched earlier on the card by Waasmula and sophomore filly Rock N Roll Xample.
