Demolition of Raceway Park in Toledo, Ohio began on Tuesday, March 24, and the cameras were there rolling to catch some of the action.
The Toledo Blade had its cameras rolling Tuesday, as demolition crews began knocking down offices with a large crane.
The report states that the demolition at the former raceway will take six to eight weeks.
The article has quoted former employee Tom Sorosiak, who started working at the track at the age of 13, as saying “I don’t know if all good things come to an end, but certainly my feelings were one of a lot of good memories there.”
Sorosiak also said, “I think Toledo lost, at this point, a landmark,” adding “I don’t know what’s going to become of the property ... but it served the community for 60 years. It served it really, really well.”
The report explains that the site is being demolished and cleared in order for the property to become more attractive to potential buyers. The property has been listed for sale at the price of $3 million.
The track opened in 1949 as an auto-racing track, but later transitioned to hosting live horse racing, first Thoroughbred and then Standardbred racing.
