With his win behind Redstone Ruckus in Sunday’s sixth race at the Meadowlands, 44-year-old David Miller reached the 9,000 win milestone.
“It’s something I’m very proud of. It’s a great accomplishment,” Miller said. “Those wins don’t come easy. I’ve been very fortunate.”
Win number 9,000 was particularly special for Miller because Redstone Ruckus is trained by leading trainer Ken Rucker. Rucker and Miller have teamed up to be an extremely formidable duo this winter.
“Ken has put me on a lot of his horses,” Miller said. “It’s nice to get 9,000 for someone I work for a lot.”
Miller currently ranks 11th in harness history for wins and, with $121 million in career purses, is No. 5 in earnings. He is looking for his second driving title at the Meadowlands and is currently atop the standings with 95 wins through March 22.
Miller shared leading driver honors with Luc Ouellette in 2003, four years after moving from his native Ohio to New Jersey. He won the Pacing Triple Crown with No Pan Intended that year and was subsequently named Driver of the Year by the U.S. Harness Writers Association.
Last year, Breeders Crown triumphs with Fox Valley Topaz and A And Gsconfusion at the Meadowlands helped propel Miller to a career-best $12.1 million in earnings.
