Driver Alfie Carroll celebrated his 1,000th career win aboard four-year-old trotting mare Daylon Melody in the second race on Friday night at Western Fair Raceway.
Carroll worked out a perfect two-hole trip for the lightly raced Pegasus Spur mare, who is trained by Jennifer Pinkerton and owned by Daylon Farms Ltd. of Komoka, Ont. He pulled the 6-5 favourite from the pocket down the backstretch the second time and swept to lead into the final turn before drawing away for the three length win over P C Eldorado. For Daylon Melody ($4.50), the 2:03 victory was her third and fastest in six starts.
Carroll, who won a career high 187 wins in 2013, is currently the leading driver in Canada this year with 81 victories. Lifetime, the resident of Iona Station, Ont. has banked over $6 million in purse earnings.
Friday's second race also marked the return of driver Ryan Holliday, who was injured in a racing accident on Jan. 17 at the London, Ont. oval. He finished third aboard Moonbeam Hall.
Carroll later began his quest toward the next milestone with an open-length win in the 11th race aboard Dan Morrissey trainee Our Star.
Trevor Henry won five of the evening's 12 races.

Congratulations to Alfie
Congratulations to Alfie !!!
It is nice to see this young driver doing well . He hails from a solid racing family and can boast something that not every driver can .Both his father Richard, and his mother Mary (Phillips) were drivers as well as his uncle Bill . I think I recall being present for his first career win a few years back with his father's veteran trotter Olympic Chip ,finishing in a dead heat with Donnie Rankin Jr. at the now defunct Windsor Raceway .Continued Good Luck !
Congrats I hope they start
Congrats I hope they start saying HERE'S THAT MAN AGAIN!
