O’Brien Award Winner Resurfaces

It was a busy Thursday morning at Woodbine Mohawk Park as the oval hosted a 10-pack of qualifiers, and among the starters was a talented trotter who’s had more comebacks than Rocky Balboa.

Musical Rhythm, who was named the nation’s Older Trotting Horse of the Year in 2019, returned to action following a layoff that dated back to July 9, 2019.

Injured in that Preferred assignment, the Ben Baillargeon trainee found his way to the sidelines and took the necessary time to heal up before resurfacing in this morning’s qualifying session.

Mario Baillargeon had the eight-year-old son of Cantab Hall-Musical Victory on the lead at the quarter in :29.1, but they quickly took a seat behind a pair of backstretch loopers – stablemate Run Director and then Cue Hall. It was Cue Hall leading the field through middle panels of :58.3 and 1:28.2, and thanks to his :28.2 final quarter he managed to fend off the hard-driving Musical Rhythm by a nose in 1:56.4.

Musical Rhythm, who has also spent time breeding a select group of mares, is a 36-time winner who owns a mark of 1:50.4 and a bankroll that stands at $888,488.
