Pair Of Preferreds At Western Fair

After a trifecta of Preferred events on Monday, The Raceway at Western Fair District served up a pair of Preferred pacing events for fillies and mares on Tuesday afternoon.

Bullet Point was making her first start over the London half-miler in nearly a year and certainly found the new surrounding to her liking. The Blake MacIntosh trainee, driven by Billy Davis Jr., was saddled with the trailing post 8 in Tuesday's $10,500 Preferred Fillies & Mares Pace but was able to follow out the rail-sitting favourite Bunny Mach to attain pocket position. Bunny Mach (Rob Shepherd) carved out splits of :28.1, 58.4, and 1:27.4 with Bullet Point in the pocket and Thatll Be Franny (Nick Steward) applying pressure on the outside.

Once that first over bid from 'Franny' fell short, Bullet Point was able to angle clear at the head of the lane and easily disposed of the pressured pacesetter. On Bullet Point's back, however, was Pathtodover (Doug Bowins) loaded with pace and a eager for a path to set sail. Bullet Point found the wire three-quarters of a length to the good in a time of 1:57.4 with Pathtodover and Bunny Mach completing the triactor.

Blake MacIntosh of Cambridge, Ont. owns and trains six-year-old Bullet Point (McArdle - Drawing Card), now a winner of her last two races over half-mile tracks after racing for the majority of the last three seasons on the WEG circuit.

A mare more known to the fans and horseplayers at Western Fair is Driving Miss Deo, who was sent off as the slight betting favourite in the $8,400 Preferred 2 for Fillies & Mares. While the odds on the toteboard read 2-1, she raced like a 1-9 shot.

Driven by Trevor Henry for trainer Dan Creighton, the four-year-old Lis Mara - Rapid Reanne mare punished her eight rivals through fractions of 28, 57.4, and 1:26.4 before opening up ten lengths on the field at the top of the stretch.

Henry eased up and paced home in an unhurried :31.3 to trip the timer in 1:58.2 with a six and three-quarter length wrapped-up win.

Privately purchased by Putnam Training Centre in late December, Driving Miss Deo notched her first win in seven starts for her new connections.
