Update On MacDonald, McNair

Trot Insider has received updates from James MacDonald and Doug McNair, the drivers that were involved in an accident on Thursday (March 11) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

MacDonald and fellow reinsman Doug McNair were unseated from their racebikes in the first race after pacesetter Dont Dilly Dally made a sudden break on the way to the three-quarter pole. McNair and Just Plain Needy collided into the back of the breaking horse and then fell, while MacDonald caught the racebike wheel of the fallen horse with Red Dirt Fulofhart.

Both horses escaped serious injury, and both drivers got to their feet quickly. MacDonald was taken to a nearby hospital, while McNair drove in the next race before booking off the remainder of his drives.

McNair and MacDonald both plan to return to action on Friday night. MacDonald was kept overnight for observation, and was released on Friday morning

"Looks like some bruising on my lungs but should heal on its own," said MacDonald. "All good to go."

McNair reported on Friday morning that he felt the "same as last night; just a little stiff on the one side" where he hit the track, likening the soreness to a charley horse. "Should be good to go tonight."

MacDonald is listed in seven races on Friday (March 12) at Mohawk, while McNair has 11 drives on his dance card.

Clearly these two guys are both serious Canadian professional athletes. "Bruised lungs" & "stiff and sore good to go tonight though". Both beauties!! Thank goodness all participants (human and equine) are ok.
