With her victory in today’s Mares Preferred Pace at Western Fair Raceway, Lady Latte is now tied for the most wins by a standardbred in North America
so far in 2010. Today’s effort gives the four-year-old seven wins to date this year, which ties her with the nine-year-old gelding Winbak Hotshot.
In today’s $11,500 contest at the London, Ontario oval, the lead changed hands several times but it was Lady Latte and Mike Sumner with it when it counted most, at the wire in 2:00.3. Stonebridge Celest was second followed by Desir.
A roan daughter of No Pan Intended, Lady Latte is owned by Craig Turner and Mhairi Kersel of Ingersoll, Ontario. She now has seven wins in eight tries this year for $26,000 in earnings. Lifetime it put the Bill Hamm trainee at 16 wins and $75,000.
Connected Yankee captured the $13,500 Preferred Trot using a three wide move from sixth at the three-quarter pole to win by more than three lengths for Paul MacKenzie in 2:03.3. Bacio Hanover was next best and Sonny Vale was third.
It was the third win this year for the eight-year-old Yankee Paco gelding claimed last month by William Hood of Windsor and trained by Joe Pereira.
The co-featured Preferred Pace saw Oakley Seelster go gate to wire for Trevor Henry to win by two lengths in 1:58 over Monster In Law and Logan M.
A six-year-old gelding by Western Maverick owned by Clayton Walmsely of Walkerton and trainer John Kennedy of Woodstock, Oakley Seelster was recording the fourth win in eight starts in his 2010 campaign.
