Six For Duke And MacDonald

There’s been no stopping Duke at Rideau Carleton Raceway in recent weeks, and it was more of the same on Sunday night for the gelding who stepped his sixth straight victory

.

And in typical Duke fashion, the Jamie Copley trainee showed no mercy to his pacing counterparts.

The six-year-old son of Dexter Nukes, who was sent off as the 1-9 favourite, made a bold move to the lead in the third quarter of the mile for teamster Todd Warren. Warren kept the pedal to the metal with Duke in the final two furlongs of the $6,700 tilt, and used a :29-second final quarter to post the nine-length score in 1:58.

During the win streak the pacer has won by a staggering average of nearly 10 lengths for Copley and partner Dave Tingley. In 19 career starts Duke has assembled a 10-3-1 record while banking $39,777 along the way.

The Sunday program also proved to be a profitable one for driver John MacDonald, who reined in six winners on the 15-race card.

The career winner of 1,286 races is well on his to building on last season’s career year for wins (304) and earnings ($1,575,505). He has already picked up 28 wins in 2009 while banking in excess of $100,000.
