Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz and Liberal MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris, whose Halton riding includes the Town of Milton, have both commented on the major milestone that Mohawk Racetrack and the town reached in late January.
Just a few weeks ago, the Town of Milton received a payment of $1,098,380 from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. Milton receives quarterly payments from the OLG because the township hosts the OLG slot parlour at Mohawk, which falls within Milton’s borders.
According to an article by insidehalton.com, the January payment from the OLG proved to be an important one for Milton, as the township has now taken in more than $100 million in non-tax gaming revenue from the OLG since August of 1999.
Mayor Krantz and MPP Naidoo-Harris – who recently praised the province’s horse racing industry at the O’Brien Awards – took the time to express their appreciation for the OLG and Mohawk, and explained how the two entities are such important economic drivers for Milton.
“It (slots revenues) really has benefitted this municipality,” Krantz was quoted as saying. “There are projects that have happened in this community, whether it be infrastructure, facilities, equipment and more that certainly would’ve been delayed five, 10 or even 20 years without that $100 million. It has helped us in many, many areas.”
“Revenues from OLG gaming sites help host municipalities, like Milton, to invest in local priorities, including infrastructure projects and community programs,” said MPP Naidoo-Harris. “As Milton grows, so does the need for access to local services. On a larger scale, these funds help provide services such as health care and education across the province. I’m pleased that Ontarians continue to benefit from these important partnerships.”
