Colin Johnson's Peenie was the winner of Rideau Carlteton Raceway's Sunday night feature for the 15-dash harness racing card, holding off a late charge to take the $14,000 Preferred Handicap Pace

.

In rein to Denis St. Pierre, Peenie watched from the back while Guy Gagnon guided Best Show In Town to sensible fractions of :28 and :57.3 on the lead. Just past the half, St. Pierre had Peenie up and challenging the leaders, poking a head in front by the 1:26.1 three-quarter panel with a dead-game Best Show In Town not going away quietly and even coming back on to be on top at the head of the stretch.

Peenie, however, would not be denied and forged to the front. In doing so, he allowed loaded with pace pocket sitter Did It Again (Stephane Gendron) room to angle out for the stretch drive. Gendron had to quickly collect his pacer from rolling into a speed break once tipped out and almost nailed Peenie on the wire, just falling a neck short in 1:54.3 with Best Show In Town rounding out the top three.

Now five, Peenie (Real Artist - Tre Cress) is owned and trained by Colin Johnson of Le Gardeur, Qc. and boasts 22 wins with over $266,000 in lifetime earnings.
