It was a front-stepping score for Boomboom Ballykeel in Monday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for horse and gelding pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and that was music to the ears of the favourite players.
Bob McClure had Boomboom Ballykeel parked and driving past the quarter in :27.4 before crossing over to the pylons and knifing out middle panels of :57 and 1:26.1 with the Richard Moreau trainee. The 4-5 favourite finished off the competition with a :30.1 final quarter, which earned him the win by 1-3/4 lengths over Lets Wait And See in 1:56.2. Think On It was third.
The six-year-old son of Mach Three-Teig N Riley is a homebred owned by Ballykeel Racing of Tillsonburg, Ont. It was the first win of the season for the 22-time winner who boasts a bankroll in excess of $760,000.
Shippen Out made it back-to-back wins in London thanks to his tally in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for horse and geldings pacers.
Alfie Carroll aggressively hustled his charge to the lead despite starting in the second tier. They overtook Blissfull Years just before the opening quarter flashed up in :27.4. Once in command of the tempo, Shippen Out sliced out middle fractions of :57.3 and 1:27.2 before using a :29.1 kicker to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Blissfull Years in 1:56.3. Pay Late took home the show dough.
Sent off as the 6-5 choice, the five-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Shipps Bikini won for the 11th time in his career while pushing his lifetime earnings to $175,704. He is owned by Gordon Mc Donald and Christopher Boland.
