George Smitherman, Ontario's minister of Energy and Infrastructure, made some point blank comments today in regard to the horse racing industry
.
The Niagara Falls Review reports that prior to heading into a closed-door caucus meeting today, Smitherman said that the racing industry needs to do its part to make horse racing an attractive and financially viable form of entertainment.
Smitherman said that the Ontario government is working hard to save the Fort Erie Racetrack for thoroughbreds, which has been losing money for years now, resulting in an uncertain future.

Note Mr Smitherman's
Note Mr Smitherman's comments. is this a veiled statement as to our future for slot revenues, don't be surprised. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot.
I wonder what Mr Smitherman thinks about the possibility of horse racing attracting more fans with this recent screw up at Western Fair and the Pilon incident that's attracting some ugly comments.
I wonder what Mr Smitherman and his political colleagues think about our recent problems with WEG and the apparent lack of action or concern by the so called governing body that controlls horse racing in Ontario. What can their lack of visibility on the radar screen mean whenever a contoversial issue comes up they're no where to be found. I'd think lack of Managerial Integrity would probably be on most peoples mind.
Time for a change before it's too late I'd think.
