Desperate Measures Eyes Another Title

Abbetross A Claiming Series champion Desperate Measures extended his win streak to five during the first leg of the Spartacus Claiming Series for $9,000 claiming pacers on Saturday afternoon at Fraser Downs

Desperate Measures ($8.40) was a wire-to-wire winner in the second of three $7,100 divisions for teamster Jim Marino and trainer Justin Currie. The eight-year-old son of Electric Yankee-Deal Offthe Bottom stopped the clock in 1:55 with the popular Red Star Sailor (Ed Hensley) finishing a half-length behind in second and Redoric (Doug Chappell) rounding out the top three. Langley’s Chris Currie owns the gelding, who is now four-for-four on the year and has won eight of his last nine starts.

Claimed for $6,000 each from the same event on Jan. 29, both Kiss My Cam and Oblivious Boy made their new connections proud with victories in the other two divisions.

Kiss My Cam ($9.40) made a three-wide brush around the parked out Taylor Special down the backstretch and charged home to score in 1:56 for trainer, driver and co-owner Ed Hensley. Favourite Garden Gate Ll (Mike Hennessy) and Modern Man (Keith Clark) finished one length behind in second and third. The J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. also shares ownership of the seven-year-old Camluck-Modd Indigo gelding, who picked up his first win in four starts this year.

Oblivious Boy ($4.90) and driver Brandon Campbell rallied off cover in the stretch to prevail in 1:56.3 by two and a half lengths in the final division. The popular Kelly Hoerdy pupil won by two and a half lengths over Custom Krafted (Ed Hensley) and Red Star Kash (Mike Hennessy). Hoerdt and Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta. co-own the five-year-old son of As Promised-Armbro Villa, who also picked up his first win in four seasonal starts.
