Favourites Lickcreek Jazzy and Modern Legacy captured their respective Princess of the Pacific divisions Saturday at Fraser Downs for trainer-driver Ed Hensley, who shares ownership of both first leg winners with the J J J Stables

of Aldergrove, B.C.

Fresh off a win in last week’s Fillies & Mares Open Pace, 2-5 favourite Lickcreek Jazzy converted from the pocket to prevail over pacesetter Rossridge Tristar in the first $10,000 division.

Rossridge Tristar (Barry Treen) shot to an early two-plus length lead during a :27.2 opening quarter and led the way through the remaining stations of :56 and 1:24.1. As the field of nine rounded the final turn, Lickcreek Jazzy angled out and wore down the leader in the stretch with a :28.4 final frame for a career-best score in 1:53.1 over a sloppy track. Rossridge Tristar finished one and a half lengths behind and Doober Hoozzitz (Glenn White) rounded out the top three.

The daughter of Hi Ho Silverheels-Lick Creek Rosa has won half of her six starts and $23,460 during her six-year-old campaign. Lickcreek Jazzy’s 18th career win pushed her bankroll to $213,902.

In the second division, Judges Acenthehole (Jim Marino) established early command with Lady And Thetrench (Tim Brown) sliding into the pocket from a Post 8 start during the first quarter clocked in :27.3. Hensley made a quarter pole move firing Modern Legacy to the front from third. The 4-5 favourite took the field to the half in :57.1 while Lil Kim (James Burke) moved first up and dropped in the two-hole at the 1:25.3 third quarter mark. Modern Legacy was unstoppable as she sprinted home in :28 seconds, drawing away by four lengths. Her 1:53.3 winning effort was a new life’s mark. Lil Kim finished second and Second Fancy (Don Monkman, Jr.) came on for third.

The five-year-old Jate Lobell-Modigliani bay is now three-for-eight in 2010 with $18,700 earned. Her 12th lifetime score puts her bankroll at $141,927.

The second Princess of the Pacific leg will take place next Saturday, with the $75,000 final scheduled for the following Saturday, March 13.
