Trainer Ben Baillargeon recognizes that he hasn't had a good start to 2011. After finishing second to Richard Moreau with 99 wins last year, the Rockwood, ON resident has only sent out five winners from 73 starters
on the WEG circuit, so far this year. Baillargeon currently trains a stable of 40 with nine two-year-olds in training.
"Right now we are not winning any races," Baillargeon commented. "We are doing very bad so hopefully our luck will change soon."
The veteran conditioner will also be looking forward to the return of a pair of trotters in Yursa Hanover and Talespinner.
Yursa Hanover, who finished third in her $250,000 Breeders Crown final for older trotting mares, has $907,389 in career earnings. The daughter of Windsongs Legacy will have the same schedule as 2010 with a few exceptions according to Baillargeon.
Talespinner, who set the Bridger Trotting Series stakes record last year in 1:56.2, hasn't been the same since. The son of Conway Hall has been making consistent breaks which led to Baillargeon giving highly touted colt some time off. The $100,000 yearling purchase is currently in training with Normand Bardier, Jr. in Quebec.
After finishing a disappointing fourth place in her most recent start at Woodbine in the Fillies and Mares Open pace, Voelz Hanover will get some much deserved time off. After earning $277,940 last season, the daughter of Astreos is quickly approaching $1 million in career earnings.
Baillargeon gave in-depth updates on all three of these stars in addition to discussing his two-year-olds in training. He also reflects on his goals for 2011 in the following video with WEG’s media department.
