The family of injured horseman Anthony Coletta has issued a statement, which says that the 31-year-old driver is in the “race of his life.”
Coletta sustained severe injuries during a race at Harrah’s Philadelphia on November 17, 2013 and has been hospitalized ever since.
A team of lawyers and track experts examined racecourse at the Pennsylvania track last Thursday (Feb. 20) as part of an informational gathering process, which could be part of a upcoming lawsuit against the raceway.
The Colettas’ statement appears below.
“Anthony is in the race of his life and it is a race he is – like all of his races – out to win. We want the racing world to know how grateful we are for your thoughts and prayers. And we are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support for our son from across the U.S., Canada, and as far away as New Zealand. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
The Pennsylvania State Harness Racing Commission announced in January that the 2014 harness racing season at Harrah's Philadelphia has been suspended pending required information on racetrack surface issues.
