Benns Thunder emerged from a wall of early speedsters and held onto the lead to notch his second consecutive victory in Windsor Raceway’s $9,500 Preferred Trot on a

snowy Wednesday evening.

Gunning for the early lead from Post 7, Benns Thunder and driver Brad Kramer found themselves three-deep as they headed into the first turn. The fan favourite eventually crossed over to secure the lead ahead of Dash Car (Daniel Potvin) and Our Girl Maddie (Brad Forward) before hitting the first quarter in :28.4.

As Benns Thunder took the field to the :58 half-mile marker, Coach Fox (Darrell Wright) began his first over bid from fourth. The challenger reached the leader’s saddle pad before Benns Thunder opened up three lengths on the field at three-quarters in 1:27.3.

Home Stretch (Tim Driver) survived an overland journey and charged the pacesetter in the stretch, but Benns Thunder found the wire just in time. The seven-year-old son of Keystone Nordic stopped the clock in 1:58.3 with a neck to spare, giving Kramer his third win on the nine-race card. Longshot Rush N Supreme (Mitchell Walker) closed well for third.

Benns Thunder returned $4.30 to win.

Kelly Goodwin trains and owns the bay gelding with Michael Lee of Marshall and Scott Goodwin of West Olive, Michigan. Benns Thunder is two-for-six so far this season with over $10,000 earned. Lifetime, he has won 28 races good for $231,191 in purses.
