Boots followed up a career-best victory a week ago in the opening leg of a Pop-Up Series with another winning effort in round two on Friday, Feb. 21 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Driver Louis-Philippe Roy sent the 2-5 favourite down the road in a 1:56.2 mile this time -- three-fifths of a second off his mark -- for the 1-3/4-length victory as he aims to sweep this series for male pacers four years old and younger. In a field of just a half dozen for the $12,000 second leg, pocket-sitter Why Wouldnt Ya (James MacDonald) and a from-last Smiles For Miles (Bob McClure), the runner-up and third-place finisher last Friday, hit the board again.
This Pop-Up event is for non-winners of $25,000 or pacers not averaging $1,500 per start in a minimum of 10 starts in 2024-2025.
Boots, who was beaten less than a length finishing fourth in the final of a similar Pop-Up Series that wrapped up earlier this month, paid $2.90 to win.
Now two-for-two since joining the Ben Hollingsworth stable for owner A Bianco Holdings Limited of Woodbridge, Ont., the four-year-old Upfront Hannahsboy gelding improved his lifetime record to 6-4-5 from 25 starts with his earnings now totalling $46,078.
