George Young Claiming Series Continues

Outlawclassichrome and Black Mac braved the -20 degree temperatures on Saturday afternoon at Northlands Park to capture their respective second leg divisions of the George Young Memorial Claiming Series

for pacers racing for a $5,000 price tag.

Driven by Gerry Hudon, Outlawclassichrome converted from the pocket to upset the first $3,900 division in 2:00.3. The 9-1 fifth choice prevailed by a neck over pacesetter Good Chi (Kelly Hoerdt) with Best For Blues (Brent Grundy) third and leg one winner, favourite Rango (Jamie Gray), fourth.

The son of Northern Dynasty-Outlaws Delight paid $20.60 to win. Lance Ward trains and co-owns the six-year-old with Craig Gerhart of Edmonton, Alta. The victory was Outlawclassichrome’s first in three starts this season and 16th lifetime pushing his earnings to over $60,000.

Favourite Black Mac advanced to the lead in the second division after the opening quarter and led the rest of the way en route to a 1:59.3 victory for trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt, who claimed the gelding for $4,000 from the first leg with Trevor Williams of Winnipeg, MB. Modern Look (Ryan Grundy) finished a half-length behind with Ready To Go (Brent Brundy) third.

The nine-year-old Northern Luck-Delicrombie gelding paid $3.80 to win for the second time in six starts this year. With the victory, the career winner of 26 races pushed his earnings over the $170,000 mark.

All Canadian Mjjz won this week's top pacing class for males in 1:57.1 for driver Jeff Stone and trainer Rod Starkewski, who co-owns with Larry Thomas of Edmonton while River Lass won the top class for mares in 1:58.4 for trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt and co-owner Bail Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta.
