"It sure doesn't make a guy feel great when you look at the stands and see a lot of empty seats and almost nobody standing at the rail."
Those words are from Alberta-based horseman Brent Grundy, and they appear in today's edition of The Edmonton Sun.
Although, the 52-year-old Grundy did not dwell on the negative.
"I firmly believe that harness racing will bounce back," he said. "And I think thoroughbred racing will see better times, too."
Grundy offered many quotes in the article. He said that no matter what, he believes an 'A' track in Calgary is a necessity.
"It isn't enough to say we need an 'A' track like Northlands somewhere in southern Alberta. We need Calgary.
"If it turns out to be the (proposed) track at Balzac, well and good. If not, well ... we still need Calgary to put the sport back where I think it belongs."
