Veteran driver Allan Davis joined the 1,000-win club Monday at Dover Downs thanks to a front-stepping score with Arc De Triumph in the finale.
Davis, who entered the 15-race card needing two wins to reach the magical number, found his way to victory lane with Winbak Speedi (1:54.3) in Race 11 to bring his lifetime win total to 999.
Davis then hustled Arc De Triumph to the front in Race 15 and successfully led the field through fractions of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:25.2 before finishing them off with a :29.3 closing panel en route to the 1:55 decision and the 1,000th win of his driving career.
The Smyrna, Delaware horseman celebrated a career year in 2013 thanks to 322 victories and purse earnings in excess of $3.2 million. Davis is closing in on $10 million in lifetime earnings.
