"We Have To Put The Sport First"

While concurring that one race like the new $200,000 Bettors Delight Open Pace might not be enough by itself to keep some of harness racing's biggest names on the track as aged performers, Jason Settlemoir succinctly defined the reason for the event

: "We have to put the sport first."

In a discussion with Trot Radio's Norm Borg, Settlemoir discusses how this new stake compliments the other offerings for aged horses at Tioga and Vernon like the Credit Winner, the Conway Hall, the Artiscape and the Miss Versatility and how other tracks are also looking at considering similar events which are especially important for the aged segment now that the Classic Series is finished.

"It takes somebody to take the bull by the horns and march forward with it and give it a try," states Settemoir, the VP of Simulcasting and Racing for Tioga and Vernon Downs, "there are not many ideas that are coming out right now to re-invent the wheel and it seems like we continue to do the same things over and over and over again."
