Fifth into the final turn with no apparent racing room, Redwhite N Goo swung sharply outside, looped the leaders and sprang a 23-1 upset in Friday’s co-feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $21,487 conditioned trot.
Once driver Koltin Noble was able to show him racetrack, Redwhite N Goo rallied from the backfield to win in 1:54,1, three-quarters of a length better than Windsong Patriot and Killer Instinct.
Scott Betts trains Redwhite N Goo, a homebred six-year-old Googoo Gaagaa-Redwhitenbluestone gelding who is now two-for-two to start the year and lift his career earnings to $121,548 for Tim Betts. He paid $49 for a $2 win ticket.
In Friday’s other co-feature, a $21,487 conditioned pace, driver Brady Brown and Sandbetweenmytoes (pictured above) yielded to the pocket when The Real Way challenged early, but he was the stronger horse late, prevailing over his rallying stablemate Prairie Panther by two lengths in 1:51.3. The Real Way saved show.
Dirk Simpson trains Sandbetweenmytoes, a seven-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Galleria gelding who now boasts a lifetime bankroll of $774,380, for Greg Luther Racing LLC. A 26-time winner lifetime, the pacer has won half of his six starts this year. He paid $4 to win as the even-money favourite after dropping from the Open ranks.
Ronnie Wrenn Jr. piloted four winners on the 13-race card.
