Heres The Magic and driver Gord Brown paired up to prevail off a pocket trip in the $6,650 Winners Over Handicap Trot featured on the Valentine's Day card of harness racing at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Heres The Magic followed race leader Next To Go (Ted McDonald) through fractions of :28.4, :59.4 and 1:30.2 as he turned back contenders Creampuff Macdaddy (Guy Gagnon) and favourite Four Starz Speed (Pierre Desjardins). However, Next To Go was unable to fend off his pocket-pursuer, who tipped to the outside at top of the stretch and blew by to win in 2:00.4 by nearly three lengths. The track was rated 'good' on the frigid Sunday night with temperatures dipping to -24 degrees. Uncle Freddie (Louis-Philippe Roy) came on late to finish second over Next To Go.
Heres The Magic paid $10.40 to win as the 4-1 third choice on the toteboard.
The Blake Curran trainee has now won half of his four starts in 2016. He is co-owned by Curran and Jason Jamieson, both of Perth, Ont.
The victory was the seven-year-old Kadabra gelding's 20th lifetime and increased his earnings to $362,219.
Brown also drove Rideau newcomer Vincent Van Go to victory for Chelsea Knapp, who had a training triple on the 11-race card. It was the first time in Knapp's career that she has had three winners on a single card. Michelangelo (Richard Simard) and Four Corners (Louis-Philippe Roy) were her other Sunday stable stars.
