The now seven-year-old stallion Jimmy Freight found himself back in the winner’s circle of Woodbine Mohawk Park’s top class, the $36,000 Preferred Handicap Pace, for the first time in nearly three years on Saturday (Feb. 12).
Off as the second-longest shot on the board at 11-1, driver Louis-Philippe Roy floated Jimmy Freight to sit fourth while Uhtred led the field by the quarter in :28.3. Poseidon Seelster soon vacated pocket coming into the backstretch and took over control heading to a :57.3 half. The Greek Freak mounted a first-over bid but started rolling his wheels uncovered around the final turn.
Poseidon Seelster owned two lengths on Uhtred to three-quarters in 1:26 while The Greek Freak began to back through the field. Room then opened for Roy to sling Jimmy Freight from the pegs, and the Richard Moreau trainee gobbled ground to recoup nearly five lengths to post a 1:53.2 victory over Uhtred by three-quarter lengths. Poseidon Seelster finished third and Commanding Officer closed for fourth.
Owned by Adriano Sorella, Jimmy Freight has won 23 races from 60 starts, earning $1,499,805. He paid $24.40 to win.
