The blizzard that raged across the U.S. midwest and east coast paralyzed traffic and left hundreds of thousands without power. Yet, it couldn’t stop horsemen from 25 states, five Canadian provinces, and Europe from plowing their way to the famed Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio for
the 47th annual Winter Speed Sale.
“The conditions were very unpleasant,” said Blooded Horse Sales manager Jerry Haws. “I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding and for the extreme effort it took to get themselves and their horses to the sale. We had a good crowd and a good sale.”
Walnut Hall Ltd.’s star-studded consignment topped the two-day event with its trotters. Lady Stormont, with a new Deweycheatumnhowe foal by her side, drew applause from the crowd when she sold for $80,000 to Eric Baker of Long Sault, Ontario.
Kidman Hall, a Like A Prayer half sister to the great broodmare Amour Angus, went home with Dr. John Hurtgen of Nandi Farm for $55,000. Kidman Hall is in foal to Deweycheatumnhowe.
Jules Siegel was pleased to get the 1:54.4, $300,000 winner Go Go Gabby, also in foal to Deweycheatumnhowe, for $45,000.
Enchanting Lady lived up to her name as she proudly displayed her new Deweycheatumnhowe foal. John Magnusson of Paris, Kentucky purchased the 3,TT1:55.2 daughter of Angus Hall for $40,000.
The Walnut Hall Ltd. yearlings were led by Vixen Hall, a fancy Tom Ridge filly from the family of B Cor Pete, for $16,500. Garnet Hall, a Striking Sahbra daughter of Go Go Gabby, brought $15,500.
The handsome trotting stallion Armbro Approach was purchased by Heath Calvert of Illinois for $27,000. The son of Mr Lavec, out of a half sister to Super Bowl, was offered as a racing and breeding prospect.
