Round two of the Wind & Roses Trotting Series went postward Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and the sequel featured a table-turning triumph by BCs Rose over week-one winner Stonebridge Strong. BCs Rose shot to the top for trainer/driver Rick Zeron and together they led the group through fractions of :28.4, :58.1 and 1:28.1. Race favourite Stonebridge Strong stormed up late from the backfield but couldn’t get to BCs Rose who held on to win by a length over Stonebridge Strong in 1:58.1. Draven Hanover sat a pocket trip throughout and wound up third.
Allan Schmucker Jr of Harlan, IN owns the four-year-old daughter of Lous Legacy-Rose Principal who improved her 2022 record to 1-2-0 from four assignments. The five-time winner upped her career bankroll to $95,172 with the win. Thursday’s card also featured the opening leg of the Pop Up Series for female claiming pacers, with two $12,000 divisions going postward. Nothingcomparestou was a popular winner in the opening split for the team of driver Doug McNair and trainer Dave Brown. The four-year-old daughter of Hes Watching-Rub N Tug got away second before quarter pole-moving to the lead. Marvelous Kiss threw down the opening quarter in :29.1 before giving way to Nothingcomparestou in the backstretch. Once she cleared to the top she carved out middle panels of :58.3 and 1:27.3. Chanel Beach turned in a late rally, but came up a nose short to Nothingcomparestou who found the line in time and stopped the clock in 1:57.1. Chanel Beach was next best, with Marvelous Kiss finishing third.
Brown bred and co-owns the distaffer with Jim Elburg of Sunderland, ON. The win was her second of the season and the fourth of her career. The $6,000 payday lifted her lifetime earnings to $48,431. Black Betty kicked off cover turning for home and then used her explosive kick to win the second division for the tandem of driver J Harris and trainer Stacey Currie. Harris got away fifth with the five-year-old daughter of Betterthancheddar-Windsun Rain while Countercurrency fired to the top and supplied the field with fractions of :28.4, :58.2 and 1:27.3. Harris had his charge positioned second over, and when he pulled the trigger in the lane she kicked home in :28.1 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Moonlitebeach in 1:56.2. Kaylies Real swept from last to finish third.
Daniel Mead of Rockwood, ON owns the seven-time winner who now owns a 1-1-0 record from five trips to the track this season. She pushed her lifetime earnings over $50,000 with the win.
