One of the most coveted trophies in Canadian harness racing, the O’Brien Award has been placed on mantels to recognize the sport's greatest horses and participants since its inception in 1989. Winning an O’Brien trophy is an honour that is not taken lightly and for some is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Made of bronze, the O'Brien Award weighs in at approximately seven pounds, stands 12 inches high and its value is priceless.
Given how hard it is to win an O'Brien, the trophy and its namesake are more familiar to some than others. As a special video feature unveiled at the 2017 O'Brien Awards, we asked some of harness racing's next generation what they know about Joe O'Brien and the award in his likeness.
Watch as Landon, Allie, Rayah and Nate (the children of Marc & Natasha) Campbell, Jett & Siara (childen of Jody & Stephanie) Jamieson and Ava & Ollie (children of Anthony & Amy) MacDonald discuss the O'Brien Awards.
SC would like to thank the Campbells, the Jamiesons and the MacDonalds for their participation in this project.
