Former World Record holder Anniecrombie was euthanized on Monday (Feb. 7) at Hunterton Farm at Stoner Creek in Paris, Kentucky
. The daughter of Abercrombie-Sparklespray was 28.
Owned by Ohio breeders Robert Mondillo and Donald Robinson, Anniecrombie lived the last five years at the historic Hunterton Farm at Stoner Creek and roamed what Hunterton’s Steve Stewart called “The Field of Dreams", where the great mare was laid to rest.
Named the 3-Year-Old Filly Pacer of the Year for the U.S. in 1986, Anniecrombie was campaigned as a two and three-year-old by Hall of Fame trainer George Sholty for owner Rod Hatfield. After the filly won many of the sport’s top stakes at age three, including the Jugette. Hatfield, a native of Ohio and Lexington automobile dealer, sold her to John Carver of Illinois, who watched the mare win the 1988 Breeders Crown Mare Pace. In 2010 Carver won a Breeders Cup championship race, giving him a unique double in horse racing.
Anniecrombie produced 10 foals, with many of them from her years as a member of the Castleton Farm broodmare band. However, her last was probably her best, the now open pacer Nob Hill High p,3,1:50.3f ($367,416). Nob Hill High, who was an embryo transfer, is still owned by Mondillo and Robinson and is trained by Bruce Saunders.
