John Lamers, the breeder and co-owner of Dreamfair Eternal, Canada's 2010 Horse of the Year, has gone on the record as saying that he is going to switch up an aspect of the mare's routine for the 2011 racing season.
While in discussion with Morris Dalla Costa of the London Free Press, Lamers explained that Dreamfair Eternal did not take well to the humid conditions when away from home last year during her outstanding campaign.
He said that the now-seven-year-old Camluck mare will be making short visits to her destinations when she ships out of province this season.
"One thing we will change is what we do with her between races," he was quoted as saying. "We raced in some of the stake races in New Jersey. The climate there is horrible. (The track and stable) is in a swampish area.
"Her first race there she ran 1:49.1 for a joke. She stayed there two weeks for another race and you could see she couldn't stand the humidity. She wanted her room in her own house. I will bring her down two days before she races, jog her one day, race her the next day and bring her home the same day as the race."
In regard to the heart and desire of Dreamfair Eternal, Lamers couldn't give enough praise.
"There's nothing any tougher," he said. "She just doesn't want to get beat. If she does happen to get beat, it's not her fault. She does everything she can to win. There is no quit to her."
