Preferred Hat Trick For Montreal Phil

The winning streak is now three-in-a-row and counting for pacer Montreal Phil, who was a wire-to-wire winner in Thursday’s $13,000 Preferred at Rideau

Carleton Raceway.

Gord Brown put the pedal to the metal right from the outset with Montreal Phil, who was parked by Firethorn to the quarter pole in :26.3 before being released to the top. Despite getting stung to make the lead, Montreal Phil led through middle panels of :57.2 and 1:26.3 before using a :29-second closing frame to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Firethorn. Imjustalittleguy rallied to finish third.

Sent off as the 1-5 favourite, the Guy Corbeil trainee picked up his eighth win of the season and the 32nd tally of his career. The seven-year-old son of Blissfull Hall-Matter Of Style, who is owned by Hudson Standrdbrd Stb Inc of Hudson, QC, has stashed away $268,199 in lifetime earnings.
