Mach Pride Prevails In Flamboro Feature

A parade of Preferred events was contested Sunday evening at Flamboro Downs, with Mach Pride winning the main event in 1:54 for driver J.R. Plante.

Mach Pride motored to the lead from Post 3 and never looked back after tossing out splits of :27.2, :57.3 and 1:25.4. His :28.1 closing quarter earned him the two-length win over Stoney Durkin in 1:54. Stonebridge Adam rounded out the top three finishers.

Sent off at odds of 4-1, the four-year-old son of Mach Three-Cyber Wave nabbed his third win of the season from just eight tries for the partnership of Michael Virdiramo, Sheldon Rose, Randy Zhok and Lou Green. The Lou Eftimiadis trainee pushed his lifetime earnings to $529,239 with the win.

Russian Kisses shared the winner’s circle in the Nov. 23 edition of the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2, but she had the spotlight all to herself in this week’s follow-up try at the level.

The Darveau pupil eventually drew clear to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Twilight Seelster in 1:56.4. Machleen rounded out the Triactor ticket.

The four-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover-Whig Party won for the 16th time this season and for the 20th time in her career. The career winner of $124,112 has banked $91,812 of that total this season. She was driven to victory by owner Robert Shepherd of Cambridge, Ontario.

The undercard also featured a set of $7,000 Preferred events for pacers, with one for the girls and one for the guys.

Ostinato dusted the distaffers she faced for the duo of driver Billy Davis, Jr. and trainer/co-owner McGinnis. The eight-year-old daughter of Western Terror-Rojens Patriot marched to the lead from Post 5 and successfully sliced out splits of :27.3, :56.3 and 1:25.3 before cruising home in :30.1 to win by 3-1/4 lengths over race favourite Lookers Destiny in 1:55.4. Strong Alibi was fourth-placed-third.

Jeff Wellwood co-owns the mare who extended her winning streak to two-in-a-row with the win. It was her eighth triumph of the season and the 33rd of her career. She’s banked $291,457 to date.

E R Truevalue was an impressive winner in the $7,000 Preferred 3 for horses and geldings in what was his debut for trainer Nicole Lariviere. James MacDonald made a three-wide move to the lead in the late stages of the mile with the gelding who romped to the win by 2-1/4 lengths over Western Captive in 1:56.3. Justa Camilion was third.

John Turigliatto of Temperance, Michigan owns the three-year-old son of Total Truth-Goforthemoneyhoney, who was sent off as a 12-1 outsider. After going winless in five starts last season the pacer has rebounded by posting a 9-for-30 record this year. He’s stashed away more than $33,000 in his career.
