Winning the $60,000 final of the Autumn Stakes for three-year-old trotting fillies turned out to be a piece of cake on Thursday at Woodbine Racetrack for Wark Woman who captured the rich tilt in a stakes record of 1:56.

With Randy Waples at the controls, Wark Woman tucked into an early three-hole while Magic Lindy blasted to the lead from Post 9 and supplied the field with a :27-second opener. Wark Woman was on the move as soon as the field entered the backstretch, and in a matter of strides the 1-2 favourite was in the position of command. She hit the half in :57.1 and took the group to the three-quarter marker in 1:26.3 before using a :29.2 closing panel to win by two lengths over runner-up Magic Lindy and third-place finisher Real Housewife.

“You hate to be over confident because anything can happen in a horse race but, she’s a good filly and this series suited her,” said trainer Rob Fellows following the win. “She’s been racing very well lately and I got her from a good friend of mine, Pat Hunt. He developed her and deserves most of the credit. He went away on holidays when she entered my barn and it’s been a success.”

Rob Fellows trains the homebred daughter of Ken Warkentin-Womanlee for the partnership of Glengate Farms of Campbellville and Pat Hunt of Cambridge, ON. The trotting lass, who knocked four-fifth of a second off the former stakes record of 1:56.4 set by Miss Dangles in 2010, improved her 2012 record to 5-2-0 from 14 starts while lifting her lifetime earnings to $114,380 in the process.
