Giddy Up Lucky extended his win streak to 11 with a front-end score in the $35,000 Preferred Pace on another cold and windy night at Dover Downs on Monday. Solano captured the $26,000 Open Pace and Southwind Lynx won the
$23,000 Jr. Open, which were also featured on the harness racing program.
All six of Giddy Up Lucky’s rivals stacked up behind him as this week’s elite field turned for home. The five-year-old Camluck-Sweet Art gelding and driver Eric Goodell had just enough at the wire in 1:52.1 to hold off a cavalcade of foes for his 14th win of the year by a head. Bettor Sweet came storming in the stretch with David Miller to finish second in front of Jeremys Successor and Sean Bier, and the rest of the field immediately behind.
Baron Racing Stable and one-time trainer David Rovine own Giddy Up Lucky. It was the second winner for trainer Josh Green and Baron Racing Stable and the first of two wins for driver Eric Goodell.
Solano, winner of last week’s Delaware Special, started his own win streak as Ron Pierce drove the No Pan Intended-Bloodstock Nilator five-year-old to a 1:53.1 victory in the $26,000 Open, outlasting Bad Rusty and Corey Callahan in a stretch-long head-to-head battle to the wire. Transcending finished third for Matt Kakaley. The victory was the 13th of the year for Solano, a winner of $212,685 this season for owners trainer Johnny Waite and Kathleen Wyatt.
Southwind Lynx returned to the races after a short respite to pick up a $22,000 Jr. Open triumph. Montrell Teague drove the $1.63 million career winner to a 1:52.4 triumph. Funny Deacon, driven by Corey Callahan, was second with Chilly NZ and Daryl Bier third. K And R Racing and George Teague Inc. owned Southwind Lynx, a five-year-old by Real Artist-Luxury Class, a winner of his ninth race this year and $196,328 in 2010.
