Retired stallion Jennas Beach Boy, a three-time Breeders Crown winner and world champion, was euthanized on Friday, Dec. 4 at Peninsula Farm at the age of 23, according to reports.
An article on harnessracing.com has reported that Jennas Beach Boy was euthanized Friday morning and had been diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year.
Jennas Beach Boy was campaigned by Joe Holloway during his sensational racing career and driven mostly by Bill Fahy. Overcoming two separate injuries -- P-1 fractures occurring in his right hind leg at the end of his two-year-old campaign and opposing leg during his three-year-old season -- the son of Beach Towel out of Five Oclock Cindy won 30 of his 42 career starts and over $1.9 million in purse earnings. He took his mark of 1:47.3, which was an all-age world record race mile at the time, in his third Breeders Crown victory at age four. He won divisional honours in the U.S. for three straight seasons from 1994 to 1996, and was twice named U.S. Pacer of the Year (1995 and 1996).
Jennas Beach Boy stood at the Duer family's Peninsula Farm in Lexington, Kentucky -- where he had been raised as a youngster for Lee and Linda DeVisser -- for most of his stallion career. He also reported to Indiana for stud duty in his later years at Dr. Paul and Cathy Webb’s Ivy Lane Farm.
His progeny from the past 17 years have earned nearly $72.4 million, including 204 winners of over $100,000. Among his offspring are millionaires Total Truth ($2,105,122, 1:48.3), Three Olives ($1,086,795, 1:51), Shanghai Lil ($1,073,839, 1:51.2), and Chewy Gross ($1,000,021, 1:49.3).
Jennas Beach Boy's last crop will race as two-year-olds next year.
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Jennas Beach Boy.
