The always popular New Year’s Eve card at Western Fair Raceway will kick off tonight at 7:05 p.m. with an exciting 12 race card
featuring several preferred events for both gaits.
Brad Forward, the two time dash winning champion at the London, Ontario oval will conclude the season as the top money-winning driver with $1,366,585 million earned at Western Fair this year compared to Doug McNair’s $1,268,904 million.
However McNair has wrapped up the dash winning title for the first time at the half-miler, an incredible achievement considering he’s just 19 and enjoying his first full year in his chosen profession. McNair, who has eight drives on the New Year’s Eve card, currently has 220 victories at Western Fair in 2009 followed by Forward with 181 scores.
It’s a closer battle in the trainers’ category in terms of money won this year.
Paul Taylor, who has more wins than any of his fellow conditioners with 55 (compared to Dean Wall in second place with 29), needs to earn less than $2,000 on tonight’s card to surpass Casie Coleman in the money race. Taylor, whose stable has earned $271,500 at Western Fair in 2009, has two starters on this evening’s card (Exquisite Alberta race seven and Stonehouse Baran race 11) while Coleman, whose starters took in $273,208 at the London track in 2009, does not have any entrants.
Please note that the next card following Friday night’s program will be Monday, January 4 with a 3:35 p.m. start. That kicks off the new schedule at Western Fair which sees racing from January to April four days per week, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays with a 3:35 p.m. post time and Fridays at 7:05 p.m.
