If you go to look up the word “classy” in the dictionary, don’t be surprised if you find a picture of veteran pacer My Fella staring you in the face when you get there.
The classy campaigner turned a two-hole trip into a 1:53.2 triumph in Woodbine Racetrack’s tenth race on Thursday, and in doing so he celebrated a milestone win for trainer Carmen Auciello and owner Rocco Auciello of Stouffville, ON.
My Fella was tripped out in the two-hole in his $10,000 claiming assignment by driver Anthony MacDonald, and the 11-year-old son of Pacific Fella-Ultra Sheer didn’t let the golden opportunity go to waste. He roared out of the pocket in the lane and used a :27.4 closing panel to win for the 50th time in his career.
The gelding, who is one of the oldest performers to race on the WEG circuit on a regular basis, now owns a 50-55-41 record from 350 career assignments. The career winner of $633,454 earned a 1:52.1 seasonal speed badge earlier this year at Woodbine, and he took down a career-best clocking of 1:49.2 at The Meadowlands as a six-year-old.
