Rookies Impress In BC Sales Stake Finals

Mystic Maiden blew away the competition while Nobody Can prevailed by a narrow margin in the $25,000 BC Sales Stake finals on Sunday at Fraser Downs

. Both events for two-year-old pacers were contested as non-wagering events prior to the matinee program.

The undefeated Mystic Maiden picked up the biggest payday of her career when she rolled to a career-best clocking of 1:57 in the final for fillies. The Justin Currie pupil sat fourth to the quarter pole before brushing to the top and laying down middle splits of :58 and 1:27.2 for driver Dave Hudon. She stepped home in :29.3 to seal the deal by more than eight lengths. Been Down Before was the best of the rest and Fast Lane Delila rounded out the top three.

Barry MacFarlane of Langley, BC holds the papers on the daughter of Camystic-Artfromtheheart, who is now a five-time winner in her career. She has stashed away $23,100 to date.

After a narrow defeat in the $30,000 BC Stallion Stake on December 5, Nobody Can notched a narrow tally of his own in the final of the BC Sales Stake for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Ed Hensley used off-the-pace tactics with the son of Kents On Nuke-Battalia Hanover, who got up in the final strides to nail pacesetter Dontmakemebeg by a neck in 1:58.3. Third prize went to Red Star Roman.

The J J J Stables of Aldergrove, BC and Alan Anderson of Willows, CA own the Hensley-trained gelding, who now boasts a 4-1-1 record in seven trips postward. Sunday’s $12,500 payday bumped his lifetime earnings to $48,806.
