Allamerican Laser Takes Simpson Final

Claimed for $6,000 by Isaac Waxman after winning his second leg division of the Robert Simpson Series, Allamerican Laser went on to capture the $35,000 finale

over an track rated two seconds off at Georgian Downs Saturday night.

Leaving from the inside post, 3-2 favourite Allamerican Laser and driver Mike Langdon led the top nine money earners of the three-week series to the first quarter in :26.4 before taking a :30-second breather. After reaching three-quarters in 1:25.3, the five-year-old gelded son of Artsplace-Lady Graceful opened up two and a half lengths on the field before tripping the teletimer in 1:55.2.

Second leg winners Armbro Brando (Phil Hudon) and Cameo Morley (Anthony MacDonald) closed from the backfield for second and third.

Allamerican Laser, now trained by Ken Switzer, scored his seventh win in 37 starts this year lifting his earnings to $50,927. The 13-time career winner boasts a bankroll totaling $90,989.

In the $6,000 consolation, Pinnacle Peak and Steve Byron left down the center of the track and put up panels of :27.1, :56.4 and 1:25.2 en route to victory in 1:55.2. The 3-2 favourite reached the wire with a length and a half to spare over the pocket-sitter, Vals Fortune (Aaron Byron). Donegal Bill (Otis Hall) finished third.

The Albert Albert-Shes A Rose gelding notched his eighth win of the year in 30 starts and pushed his earnings to over $40,000 for trainer Joe Pereira and owner Steve Heimbecker of Conestogo, Ont. The four-year-old now sports nine wins on his lifetime record with nearly $60,000 in earnings.

In other action, Stella Hall doubled up in the weekly $15,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Trot for Simon Allard, who drove four winners on the program, and trainer Richard Moreau. The 6-5 favourite rolled past stations of :28.1, :58.3 and 1:28.2 and turned back a challenge from Dash Car (Daniel Potvin).

Stella Hall stopped the clock in 1:58.2 with Flora Dream (Scott Coulter) finishing a length and a quarter behind and Desperatehousewife (Todd Ratchford), the longest shot on the board at 39-1, coming on for third.

The winning daughter of Angus Hall-Santacruz Hanover has scored five times in 17 starts in her five-year-old year earning $48,080. Stella Hall’s 15th career win pushed her bankroll to $109,505.
