It appears as though Summerside Raceway has secured the funding for a new grandstand for the 2009 race season.
An article in the Journal Pioneer has reported that Coun. Brent Gallant, the chairman of Summerside’s economic development committee, said the issue is “off my burner and now I can concentrate on other things.”
The article states that the city has been in productive negotiations with Atlantic Lottery Corporation, which would see fees in a lease agreement from Atlantic Lotto to finance the renovations to the grandstand.
After the provincial government refused to fund the grandstand renovations earlier this year, the city sought help from the federal government.
The grandstand renovations, which include a refurbished paddock, horse barns and shipping barns, will cost an estimated $3 million.
