The New Jersey Racing Commission (NJRC) approved 141 days of racing for both standardbreds and thoroughbreds for 2011 on Wednesday along with the licenses of four off-track betting facilities in New Jersey
.
The allocated race days were previously vetoed by Governor Chris Christie two weeks ago. Following last Friday’s meeting, an agreement was made to keep live standardbred racing at the Meadowlands Racetrack beginning in January via a secured short-term financing plan to bridge the gap to a potential long-term solution that will make the Meadowlands Racetrack a privately-run, self-sustaining venture without taxpayer subsidies.
According to an article on pressofAtlanticCity.com, the NJRC also approved licenses for all four of the state’s facilities, despite recommendations from the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) to strip the Vineland facility of its license.
Greenwood Racing, which holds the license for Vineland, is currently involved in a lawsuit with its business partner, Penn National Gaming.
