Jean Francois Gagne scored a training triple on Saturday afternoon at Northlands Park including a win in one of two $28,201 Snowflake divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies.
In the second Snowflake division, Gagne and Sammy Lee Promise sat behind the early pacesetter, Bubble Mint (Bill Tainsh, Jr.), before pulling the pocket at three-quarters and coasting to a three-length victory in 2:00.3.
Freenicki (Gerry Hudon) finished second and Outlaw Like A Lady (Mike Hennessy) was third.
Gagne also owns the As Promised miss with Peter Van Seggelen of De Winton, Alta. and Carl Warnaar of Kelowna, B.C. In just six starts, Sammy Lee Promise has recorded three wins and three seconds with earnings totaling $28,678.
In the $16,100 open event, Gagne and Tajma Hall held off Tyber King (Gerry Hudon) for the win in 1:56.3. Trust The Artist (Kelly Hoerdt) finished third respectively.
The 10-year-old son of Cambest scored his 61st career win and lifted his bankroll to $750,295 for owners Brian Buckley of Calgary and Seggelen.
Gagne also picked up a win in Race 3 with the son of Tajma Hall, Tajtoo, in 1:57.3.
The resident of Wetaskiwin, Alta. has recorded 31 training wins this year and 288 in his career. Gagne has earned over $2.2 million in purses.
In the other Snowflake division, The Big Slice and Brandon Campbell tipped out from fourth at the three-quarters mark and flew on by the pacesetter, Promise Me Amoment (Kelly Hoerdt), to win in 2:02.2 by over two lengths. Imlosingyou (Bill Tainsh, Jr.) and Whoop And Shout (Gerry Hudon) finished third in a dead-heat.
The Big Slice scored her third career win bringing her earnings to $45,024 for Allan Terry, who trains and co-owns the As Promised filly with Georgina Terry of Sherwood Park, Atla.
In the Prairie Magic for four-year-old pacing colts and geldings, Jusluky Benny rallied from off the pace to take the lion’s share of the $53,134 purse.
The son of Arts Card Shark and driver Bill Tainsh, Jr. sat in seventh as Mr Beetle Bug (Ron Graham) set the tempo with opening panels of :28 and :58.4. As the field approached the third quarter station in 1:28.3, Tainsh angled his charge to the outside. Using a :28.4 final frame, Juslucky Benny charged home for the win in 1:58.3.
Tajwon (Gagne) closed well for second and Speed Delinquent (Jamie Gray) came on for third.
Paul Dersken trains and co-owns the chestnut gelding with Joe Hansford of Calgary, Alta. The win was Juslucky Benny’s 10th in his career lifting his bankroll to $75,485.
