"There is a lot more to being a catch-driver then just jumping on and off a bike. It comes down to you and the horse making the money --- which makes this perhaps the most demanding job in the sport."
Pilot Jim Burke, who has offered the above quote in a piece by Tom Wolski in The Province, has gone on the record in regard to driving not being as easy as grandstand dwellers and simulcast viewers may think.
"A lot of times you have to help people train their horses," said Burke, who also discussed the limited driving opportunities in the province of British Columbia. "From that you may get two or three horses to exercise, and from there you try and choose the horses that would best suit you."
Wolski's article also states that longtime BC racetrack employee Sharon Terry, wife of trainer Dennis Terry, recently passed away.
"Sharon really enjoyed the people she worked with and absolutely loved her customers," Dennis said.
A Celebration of Life for Sharon will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the George Royal Room at Hastings.
Please join SC in offering condolences to the family and friends of Sharon Terry.
