Gateway Leases Land In London

Trot Insider has learned that Gateway Casinos has secured a lease for property in southwestern London, Ont. after negotiations for a casino and entertainment complex in the Western Fair District fell through.

According to a report from CTV News, Gateway Casinos, who currently operates gaming at The Raceway at Western Fair District along with ten other properties in the province, leased property on Wonderland Road after a proposal for a $140 million casino and hotel in the District fell through despite negotiations lasting a year and a half and rezoning of city- and Fair-owned land approved in September.

While Gateway would continue to share its revenue with the city of London upon being operational at the Wonderland Road site, the relocation could bear negative implications on Western Fair, who lease space to Gateway's current gaming operation adjacent to The Raceway at Western Fair District.

The Wonderland Road site, currently zoned as industrial, will require rezoning in order to house the Gateway complex pending input from the public.

"Never a door closes where another one doesn’t open," Hugh Mitchell, president of the Western Fair District, told the London Free Press. "We’ll handle this news. We’re an organization that’s been around for 100 years, and we’ve had our share of adversity over the years. I’m confident we’ll find a way forward, but we’ll need government support."

Any organization relocating it's operation while supporting 5,000 employees and making millions of dollars is nothing more than a greedy outfit. Good riddance

when will the negotiations with government/gateway/western fair to maintain the existing casino begin to sustain horse racing, with the time line getting established?
